Revival steps for an unknown engine...

Post by jamesbissland »

Hey everyone

Just wanting to hear from those who know if they have any process or steps to getting an old unknown engine going thats been sat in a barn for 10 years.

What steps do you take, and in what order from as soon as you get your hands on it?

Hope everyone is keeping safe!

Thanks so much :)

As long as the motor turns over i have had good luck pulling the the plugs and putting some atf in the cylinders and in the crank case. Turn it over a few times until you build oil pressure. Dump it, clean the sump and add fresh oil, new plugs, adjust/replace points, clean/replace cap rotor and wires, go thru the carb with a new fuel line from pump to carb. Adjust valves and fire it up, you'll know if you have problems to fix.

I have another post where I have a no start condition. poster earlier.
it outlines all I did to the car starter, wires, plugs, rotor kit, battery.
when I turn the key Gen light comes on but doesn't turn over.

if you want to reply in my other post I started that would be great.
