My son wanted me to test more boost, so he made a smaller pulley for the SC ("just so that we see how it works"..."), and we made one the smallest we could, and still fit the 22mm socket in there:

And after mounting it and starting a log, we achieved 11.3 psi of boost :)

Great fun, and it pulls really hard for a 1600cc...

Here is a shot of a pull from inside the car:

Nice sound also :)

Awesome. Weird not to see that 3000 rpm surge though (like the turbos). What kind of trans do you have?! Sounds like a bump shift sequential!

I might be me stepping on the gas a bit weirdly...

The trans is a rebuildt IRS with all the "normal" reinforcements but a lower 3rd gear, so that I have close gap from 2nd to 3rd, but longer from 3rd to 4th. I also sue a bug-tech gear shifter that is reaaly nice and precise so I just need to flick the wrist to go from 2nd to third ;)

The added boost is a lot of fun for sure, but I will probably go back to the larger pulley for daily driving purposes :) The heat builds up too quickly and I go through my water/meth tank way too fast :)

I had the water/meth system set up to start spraying at about 6 psi, but with this new pulley that is way too late, so now it kicks in at around 3, and it helps a lot, but the way I drive, it more or less constantly sprays ;)

I recorded some logs driving to work today and I see that I may still have some belt slippage, I build boost as soon as I open the throttle (and reached 11.7 psi this cold morning), but it tapers off.
log 2.PNG
I also see that my AFR in this region is way too rich, as I have never been in that region on my map before, so it needs some tuning. Also, My TPS acts up at full throttle. When I keep the throuttle WOT, it drifts off; I suspect that is maxes out the ADC on the input channel, so I might add a series resistor or something to dampen the signal a bit.

So again: Great fun, and I am starting to get the hang of this, but it becomes more and more clear that the IAT issue with a SC is a real issue :)

I tried propping the deck lid open for forcing more cold air into the engine compartment:

But the temperature still rises to about 70°C when cruising at about 2000 rpm:

So I guess I will have to look into either adding fuel prior to the SC or start looking for an intercooler :)

Still a lot of fun; drives it every day :)

I can't remember how Mario's test with pre fueling went. Did he see a big drop?

I have a Norwagian guy runnig amr500 in his Ghia also, but with a carb in front of the SC, and he reports a surface temperature of the SC in the 70°C range, indicating that adding all the fuel prior to the SC does not significantly lower the IAT at least. If we had E85 readily available here, I guess that would be somewhat better, but we dont. Everybody is converting to EVs (more than 50% of sales of new cars are electric here now...)

I guess intercooler is the way to go, so I will start digging into my "nice to have"-boxes in the attic, as I believe I have one lying around ;)

Hi , where do you inject the water? I can not see it in the pics.
Can you control it with your ECU?
TIA

Right before the SC:

And no, I do not control the water/meth through the ECU. It comes with its own controller wehere I can set the boost at which it comes on, and when it is at 100%, and it makes a linear inperpolation between the two points.

Right now I have it come on around 4 psi.

I will have to check to verify, but I believe i have 185cc ones in there now. They max out around 60% DC.

Ops, forgot to check the injector size; I got busy freshening up the workspace last evening ;)

Other than that, I drive the car daily, and it works really well.

I have started planning for the next upgrades, and the plan is to split the case, replace all bearing etc, and do a mild upgrade of the internals:
-JB200 cam from JoeBlow
-1:1.25 rockers from CB
-Mildly ported stock heads

I will also see if I can find an elegant solution for an intercoooler.

So to get a baseline before I staret modifying, have I booked dyno time on Monday next week. I hope to get a few pulls in, to see how the amount of water/meth affects power and IAT temps.

Stay tuned :)
