im most way through a resto on my 64 beetle but hit a curve ball. when the engine is off the car goes into all 4 gears and reverse but as soon as i start it it seems i cant find any gears and reverse crunches. i can start it in first but once its started cant go out then back in. is this a clutch issue ( new clutch? loose clutch?) or a box issue?
cheers

Re: cant find gears in 64 beetle
could be a clutch, Clutch arm... wrong clutch for the Trans... cable issue (between pedal and arm)... or even a simple adjustment. Could be a hook on the pedal assembly broken loose or hook missing... a lot of quick to look at items for sure... some may require a second set of eyes or feet. OH! Check the right throw out bearing as well... but that requires removing the engine, so probably the last one to check.
I have found them completely missing more than once. - PILEDRIVER
