Oil galley plug?
My son picked an old rail buggy with a VW 1600cc. (71' I believe) We got it running but when other than idling oil blows out this port. From what I have read this is possibly an "oil galley" that appears is missing a plug? I have seen some talking about drilling and tapping this on a rebuild but not much on doing it intact. Looks to be what was in it originally was some type of 14mm freeze plug but don't see any talk of doing this. Thanks for any input.

That is correct. drill and tap it for a threaded plug, or, try slathering some JB weld on it.
