YOU HAVE A 12V STARTER IN THERE!? ANY 12V ITEMS THAT YOU KNOW OF!?

Not that I know of, car is pretty much stock original except for minor replacement items(fuel lines and filter, hoses etc)

Do you get a 12V reading between the battery to the + input to the starter before and after the key is turned on. Also, doing a positive reading whey you do a capacitance check between the negative battery post and the ground cable on the starter.

This would be the first things I check as it could be a ground issue, a ignition/relay issue or any of several other problems.

By "not start," do you mean won't turn over? Or turns over too slowly?

1. Check ground strap

2. Check starter bushing in the transaxle housing. A worn bushing can need extra power to overcome.

I get nothing when I turn the key with only battery hooked up. Have full juice, lights radio etc. all work. As soon as I attach the charger(I have it on 6volt) to the battery it fires right up.

Check the ignition switch itself. They do go bad but it seems weird that with the charger works but not the battery alone. Check both the input and the output sides of the switch.

Also check the solenoid itself as they also go bad also. Good power to the solenoid along with a good ground and the wire to the ignition.

One other thing that I just remembered plus a problem I had and I just recently talked about it here and that was the starter itself. Take it in and have it tested for the field and brushes (as I remember) or maybe the "com" needs to be turned (https://www.bing.com/search?q=starter+c ... 5be9d67207). The other thing was, in my case, the battery I was using wasn't as strong (amp wise I think) enough for the draw of the starter itself: but on older and well used starters have other components that do need to be replaced at times.

ANOTHER THING TO CHECK IS THE CONNECTION ON THE 3 PLUGS UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. CLEAN THE SPADES WELL!
