Type 4 sodium filled valves or not
Hello everybody , I am into replacing the valves in my 914 heads. Right now they are old sodium filled valves for the exhaust and normal ones for the intake. Should I use again sodium filled, of go to the AE valves way and have solid ones?

Sodium was to cool the valves, so going solid could increase your temps through the valve port.
Vw went to this approach for a reason.

It was an OEM solution in the late ‘60s / early ‘70’s. Since then modern metal tech means it’s not the best option. Wasn’t even the best option in period.

He’s got his own channel
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2pQT9 ... SVLtbJBvyw
. Worth a sub.
Deals with a lot super exotic with light use. So plenty of practice encouraging misfiring engines onto all cylinders without even replacing the spark plugs. The videos of him syncing 12 Weber barrels by ear is pretty impressive.
If that isn’t impressive watch Allen Millyards channel
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2pQT ... SVLtbJBvyw
(engineered motorbikes with nuts engines, like a viper V10, home made twin based on huge aero cylinders or stock bike with extra cylinders added)
Sorry for the OT

Solid and get a 8mm stemmed valve instead of the 9mm sodium as I assume you will replace exhaust guides anyways. 8mm adds a little flow too.
