Stock pushrod limitations

Something else i always just thought,
But was maybe brainwashed by the advertisers,
That stock pushrods are too flimsy for bigger springs.
is that just with beetle motors?
How much spring to you dare run with stock pushrods?

Recently this was asked in Cal67’s thread, but rather than highjack his thread, I thought best to start a new one. Not trying to cheap out on not ordering pushrods from ACN, but when you live outside of the USA, trying to minimize the number of vendors you are ordering from sure saves on shipping as it seems every vendor has gone to a flat rate to Canada that starts in the mid $50’s to low $60’s usd range. For example: a set of 8 Manley valves was $65. On the other hand, springs and TI retainers from Logmech in Sweden was $32 cdn to ship.

So, I ask fine people of STF, after reading through my rant, what are the limitations?

And since people like pics, here is the start of my motor build. Tins have been narrowed, shortened and channeled to fit in a early notchback.

I got the idea from Dan Ruddock. He's a valvetrain guy that lingers around thesamba. He's the main beehive spring seller for VWs. They're .130"-wall, so they're not going to flex. He used to mod Bus pushrods for his own type 1 stuff because there were no HD alumimum pushrods at the time. Even now, Bus prs are still stronger than 6065 HD pushrods.
