Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
There is supposed to be a heavy front coming in from the Hawaii area. The last I heard it was to last a couple of days but not sure if it is more than two so if you are coming in here check before you come.
We are getting a front every day with the rain lasting part of a day or, like today, just a few minutes (e.g., a half hour give or take).

If you are coming over to the Oregon coast, north of Florence OR, then I would suggest to bring swim fins and a snorkel are at least a inflatable vest due to the "Atmospheric River" that is supposed to come in today and tomorrow with heavy rain. I think it is supposed to come sometime in this afternoon.
Lower down the coast we are supposed to have rain but not sure just how much in how long.

Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
Back home from the dunes. What a morning... came out to load the truck but the fog was so thick you could barely see the front of the truck from the rear of the truck... and I am not exaggerating! The fog started to lift as we headed north and finally went away as we hit Elkton then Drain. I-5 was very busy even for a Saturday
Something else we saw when heading down last Saturday... we saw 3 new but very weird looking Jeeps. We saw the first one heading south on I-5 south of Portland. It was a black 4 door pickup, the second one was farther south and it was a Black 4-door station wagon with the third, farther on down on I-5 and it was a 2-door Jeep. They all looked like early 50's but the windshield was not laid back, the sides and rear were also straight up and down. Very weird until we saw the emblem... a Mercedes Benz three legged star.

Wonder when these start to appear on the dunes and off-road (probably a trillion dollars each).

Considering the Mercedes G-Wagen (short for Geländewagen) has been in production since 1979, if their owners were inclined to take them off road they would have by now.
They were initially developed for the German military and are supposedly quite capable off road. They have become quite the status symbol and have gone very up market and have become expensive.

Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
This was the first I had seen of them here on the "left coast" and none of these had license plates or dealer "surrounds" on them so I assumed (incorrectly it seems) they were something new. We have a lot of Jeeps around here. even really old ones but it was the straight up and down windshield and the vertical straight up sides of the vehicles that caught my eye. We were also playing dodge ball in heavy traffic and the fog, wind and rain so I was being extra careful and watchful of what was going on that "Weather River" going over the west coast of the US right now.
It hasn't been since in the 20's maybe into the early 30's since windshields were that vertical.

Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
Down at the dunes for a few days to get some upkeep done. Most of it is standard up keep but since they had some very heavy winds here not too long ago we had to clean the area and the roof of the housing unit up of branches and Spruce tree cones and there were a lot of them, a guess would be somewhere between 12 and 15 5 gallon buckets of them and broken branches.
The weather coming down on Sat was OK except for the Albany had some heavy fog and it was not only on the road but also high in the air; seldom see fog as different as this was.
Rain this afternoon then some fairly clear days after.

Whoof! The sun is out but it is raining. The sky darkens up indicting rain and the rain stops. One end of the block is being rained on while the other end of the block is dry... then wet while the other end of the block the rain stops. It then stops raining then, suddenly, the middle of the block gets rained on while both ends are clear. Been off and on like that most of the morning.
Most of the camping areas are either empty or pretty empty. Be sure to check the weather before coming down.

Actually, this is about it. I enjoy the people here and the subject matter most of the time. I go on-line at a very low ability comparatively speaking. Too much time on CAD/CAM plus I got burnt out with things on-line changing so much and so much miss-use and hurting of other of the web.
As I remember, there are ways of talking to me here without other's knowing/seeing.

Temperatures in the mid 60s with 25-30 mph winds here in the low desert.

Got nice in the AM, cooler in the afternoon then misty but wet rain but... for a while now just cloud covered and no wind.
I think it is supposed to warm up a bit for the next few days.

A chance of a "high rain" (meaning it may not hit the ground) some time to day and cloudy all day. Cloudy with a chance of rain over the weekend. Otherwise the dunes have been pretty quiet.

Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
Made our first trip to the dunes in the new car. Wasn't sure how the Hybrid car would work and if we turned the engine off to get gas would it start up again (it did
).
The new bridge at Scottsburg is in a new phase as the road is one lane only now and you have a Pilot car takes the cars through the area (i think day and night so be prepared if you are going to use HWY 38 to get to the coast.
Sunny, warm during the day but cooling off fast.

Re: Report from the southern Oregon Dunes
There was a news thing out this am on the Scottsburg bridge and it is to be opened in about 2 months. They have been working on it 2 years or so.
Been fairly nice here with clouds blowing in from the ocean but dissolving away before they get too far inland. Its 62 degrees out right now with the overcast starting to burn off.
Another correction on the bridge, it is 4 days before the big opening.
