But I'm wanting to keep the boost portion of it here. So I'll begin with the motor.

It's a 2058cc type 1
80mm crank
5.4 rods
90.5 aa pistons (chromoly rings, not the biggest fan but we can touch on that later)
Web 86a cam with 1.4 rockers and dual aa springs.
8.4-1 cr
Fitech 2 barrel "electric carb"
Currently a 009 with pertronix
Tb2569 turbo from a 90's Saab

This was my first stroker build where I went thru the blueprinting aspects of building an engine with some great advice from the STF. I also did a few choice hoover mods and other oiling mods nothing crazy though. When I built the engine I knew I was going to boost it so I set the ring gap accordingly and went on the lower side of the "ideal" cr per the cam card.

It's been a super good mill with plenty of torque but on this tear down of my car I said let's do it!
When I first put the sidewinder header on I thought that would be great for a turbo! Later on i stumble across Nbuscemi's side mount turbo and top mount intercooler threads and got some great motivation:)

My setup is a little different than his but same principle. I have a 2in trans raise on my 66 which has proven time and time again to make everything a TIGHT fit and building this turbo exhaust reminded me that once again I tucked the turbo up nicely in the inner fenderwell and decided to have the exhaust go towards the front of the car and keep it away from the fender. The exhaust going to the turbo is 2in and I have 2.5in coming out of the turbo, to a glasspack, then exiting in front of the rear tire. The inlet flange was pretty close to the fender but I pie cut the hell out of a 90 to make a tight enough bend to attach a 130 deg. Coupler to it.

I will also be doing a top mount intercooler and have roughed in some piping. Once the i/c gets in I'll finish up the charge pipe and move on with finishing the rest of the car. It's getting pretty close to tear down time on my bug I've got almost everything mocked up on the car that I've changed.

I picked up an adjustable wastegate so I'll be setting the boost as low as I can to get used to the fitech software and make sure my fueling is dialed in before I start cranking up the boost.

I'm sure it will be at least a few months till I'm any where close to getting it fired up for the first time but I'll update as I make progress.

Very cool set up. When I went intercooled it was a game changer. I went from settling at 14psi max to easily running 20psi. I am currently rebuilding bigger and better because as we all know- there never is too much power!

Thank you Daniel! At first I wasn't going to intercool it and figured i would when the need came but then I got to thinking. The car is apart now and now is the time to do it, might as well set myself up for success anyways. This is my first turbo build, I've made one supercharged engine years back and the power increase was amazing so I can only imagine what it's going to be like with a healthy bigger motor and more psi!

I used a decklid rack to mount my intercooler on. My car basically looks like it is puking engine, but the results are well worth the look of mayhem on the back of my bug! Haha. I call it "10lbs of sh!t in a 5lb bug"

I made that for a "rain deflector" once I started driving in the rain just to keep the rain out

Nothing wrong with that:) i used to drive this car year round but ever since I've had a garage and haven't been rushed to drive it the next day it's spent more time on jack stands half torn apart I tore it down originally right before my son was born for a few "quick" upgrades, 2.5 years later and a few different car projects/builds and recently bringing my daughter home from the nicu I'm back at it. Hoping it'll be going this summer:)

I made up some brackets for the intercooler out of some 1/4 inch plate and bolted the intercooler to the decklid hinge structure. I finished the post intercooler piping and if you look hard enough you can see the cheap china blow off valve connected with a silicone tee right above the fan shroud.

Once I finish the pre intercooler piping I can move forward on cutting a couple of 2 inch holes in the side of the inner fender for the piping to go thru. I've been toying with the idea of welding 2 small sections of pipe in the body and connecting the silicone couplers to it but haven't decided. I'm sure it would give some more strength to that part of the panel especially since it's been cut from the body a few inches from where the piping would go thru.

Speaking of couplers and piping, how necessary is it to have the "barb" on the end of the pipe. The small sections of steel piping I've used don't have that and when I cut some of that aluminum piping it will be gone as well. I brought my bead roller up thinking I could use that but the die is bigger than the pipe
