VW Transaxle ratio calculator

Post by vw_nobbe »

Created a page where you can set your tiresize ( metric or inch ) and by vw transmission code or even manual ratio combined with rpm, count on road speed for your bug on all gears. Also splitbus reduction gears are supported.

Theres a diagram where you can map max touque and max hp rpm on your engine to get help / insight on gear handover and road speed per gear with total ratio.

May be to some help to someone =)

IMO, you need to stretch the speed axis and compress the rpm axis of the graph.
Many users will want to see the speed on the graph in mph, so a toggle would help them.

There are a few mistakes in the trans code chart. B# codes are all Autostick, so they don't have a "1st" gear.

Fixed the toggle switch for mph/ kmh and the #B issue ,
Are you using phone , pc or tablet ? for the "stretch speed axis and compress the rpm axis. " ?

Also just for fun launched a "beta / preview " dragrace game ( currently pc only, will rewrite for phone / tablet ) where your provided engine curve is matched with your selected tires weight and ratio, just for fun, this is no way a simulator!
Still need it to get it more snappy and will implement a feature to send your timeslip to a friend, and challenge them to meet the result :)
There may still bugs and once again thx for the test :)

That sounds like a very useful tool for vehicle enthusiasts and mechanics, especially those working on customized transmission setups or vintage cars like the VW Beetle (“bug”). Being able to input tire size (in metric or inches) along with the transmission code or manual gear and RPM data to calculate road speed per gear provides practical insight into how the drive train performs in real-world conditions.

Including split bus reduction gear support adds an important level of detail for those working with more complex gearbox setups. The diagram feature mapping max torque and horsepower RPM gives users valuable guidance on optimal gear change points and overall gearbox performance, which can help in optimizing driveability and engine efficiency.

Sharing tools like this with the community is definitely appreciated, as it combines technical data and practical calculations in an accessible way. It could be very helpful for DIY mechanics, restorers, or anyone tuning their vehicle to better understand the interplay between engine power and gearing [memory: user interest in VW Touran clutch and mechanical issues]. If you'd like, I can help improve or explain your page further or discuss how to make the user interface more intuitive.
