oil pump cover / engine carrier clearnace
hey all, quick question for ya....im putting a 30mm pump on an engine thats goin in a vanagon and i have clearance issues with the engine carrier......originally i just assumed id clearance the carrier but i looked at it yesterday and im not liking how much material ill need to remove so now im leanin toward trimmin down the pump cover plate......if i were to remove the plates "lip" so that its completely flat on both side will i be ok or should i expect warpage, leakage, and op issues if i go that route.......id appreciate any suggestions yall might have

Re: oil pump cover / engine carrier clearnace
Going to resurrect this thread because I have the same issue. 30mm Shadek pump from my Camper Special plus kit going into my 81 Vanagon. I had the oil pump installed and was going to install the engine carrier only to discover that there's no way that the steel cover plate will clear the engine carrier
The cover plate is some 91 mm wide while the opening in the carrier is only 83 mm.
I can't be the only one who's run into this problem, do I just attack the cover with the grinder or am I better off looking for a different cover plate?

If it’s OK to cut a corner off for the fan mount boss,
It’s Ok to chop some sides off for the cast aluminum rear hanger on the Vanagon.
Or you can clearance that hanger part a bit, too if it seems prudent.
Know that many of those aluminum covers are not likely as stout as that factory steel one even after a bit of trimming.
