I've got a NOS Formuling France steering wheel I've had for years that I'd like to put in my Deserter, but am just now finding out these haven't been made for many years and the adapter/horn button is no longer available. Anyone else run across the same problem? Any ideas what other wheel adapter could be modified the easiest to fit? I've already got an old 3-bolt wheel to column adapter, but no horn button, turn signal canceling mechanism, wheel to column housing spacer (with colapseable section), etc. I'd really like to use this wheel if possible - it's a beauty.
If I have to fit a different wheel, what is the favorite out there. The style has to be a 3-spoke, similar to my old Formuling wheel. Grant? Dino? ulp- Momo?
Thanks, Jeff

Formuling France Steering wheel help
I have two formuling france steering wheels, one that is basically too thrashed to use, but it has the adapter to fit a squareback on it, and one in my 914 with an adapter and stuttgart horn button. I'm going to put the good one into my 73 standard beetle, using whichever of the two bosses that fit my car. Then I'll have one leftover. If you're interested and you can find out if it will fit your car, I might be able to hook you up with at least the adapter.
It might be a while before I swap the steering wheels though.
As far as other favorites, take your pick, I don't think there are any favorites. It's pretty much whatever. Though those MOMO wheels sure are expensive...

Thanks for your reply Philippe. I lucked out and found a new adapter kit at Appletree Automotive. Appreciate the offer on your adapter though! FWIW, I was also made aware of a marine parts distributor that had a special run of Grant steering wheels made up to fit the Formuling 9-bolt pattern. If anyone is interested lemme know and I'll look up the web site.

Formuling France Steering wheel help
Hey that would be cool, I have a formuling also I got for $5 from a swap! Its in very good condition and even has the little VW logo, only missing the adapter. I'd love to use it. I have a Scat steering wheel that has 3 horn button inserts, I'm running the wolfsberg logo of course!
Some F'er in the "bad neigherhood" tried to steal my car or something because the horn button doesn't fit right and feels like someone tried to pull it off all wrong.

Once I install my formuling, I'll let you know about the adapter. I'm not sure if the 914 or the squareback adapter is going to fit my car.
From your username I guess you have a '74, and I have a '73. If one of them doesn't end up fitting my car, it probably won't fit yours.
I'll figure it out and let you know.
BTW, it would be cool if I could get a new horn button, both of mine are pretty old and the little emblem is coming off... I'll glue it I guess, but a new one would be suhweet...
