Hey guys, it’s been a while. For the last five years I’ve been in and out of the hospital. I was on oxygen and I think it’s been like three weeks now that I haven’t had to have my oxygen and for the last two weeks I’ve been wearing a heart monitor. It comes off in the morning Every time I go to do something., My heart races it gets to close to 200 beats a minute, but my oxygen levels stays above 90. I’ve seen it go to like 88. I think it’s the lowest in the last three weeks. So I’m doing better. I’m getting out a little bit and doing things a little bit and not like I used to. Oh boy It is terrible getting old and crippled. So is there anybody that lives near Savannah? I may have some parts that somebody may be interested in I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna do any shipping. It just cost too much and it’s a hassle. I’ve got a pretty complete set of VW factory manuals I have a factory bus manual and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff.
How many of the old OFF ROADERS still around.

Hedrock and I both sold our vw's. Skidmark lost his in a shop fire. O'fogasaurus passes away this year too.
I moved to Blanchard, OK. Hedrock and Leatherbeck both moved to Oklahoma but I haven't seen either one yet!
And I got a Crown Vic with air conditioning and power steering and brakes. Also, I got a granddaughter and another one on the way!
Hope you get better soon. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk

Hey stranger; the years are going fast! I’ve got a 1 & 3 year old and trying to juggle a dozen VW’s hasn’t got any easier. Dad retired went to the coast about five years ago, try to see him once a year…most everyone I know been getting a new machine, CPAP that is.
I built a 600whp Tahoe to haul the kids around in; growing old doesn’t mean growing up
building a ‘57 Baja for the Boy now, but I know he’s mine because he likes the ‘74 Bus more.
Hope the health keeps coming around for you. Summer weather just around the corner.

Sad to hear about lee. Everyone here was a good influence while I was being a punk kid with a Baja and I often think of the support I got from here, (cars and life). Im still a punk kid with a baja bug, the bikes part turned a bit more mountain rather than bmx. More responsibility now though, Married and bought a house. Left vws for a bit for old fords but I'm back.

I haven't been on this forum in a long time. Sorry to hear about your health troubles, David. Let's face it, growing old sucks. I thought I would share what my baja looked like the last time I saw it. The shop fire happened 2 months shy of 20 years of ownership. What fun we all had sharing our builds, modifications, runs, and adventures! It truely was some of the best times of my life.

Just stopped by to check in... It feels like things have really slowed down around here and every message board across the Internet.
As we get older, priorities shift, life moves forward, and health starts catching up with us. Heard about Lee… really sad news.
Life’s such a trip. Fads and hobbies come and go so fast, but the experiences we have-- late night wrenching, message boards, sharing and receiving information from people all over the world that had the same passions.. those are some of the best times in my life.
2002-2010 or so was really the golden era of do it yourself hobbiests and message boards.
I don’t think there will ever be another community/ generation quite like those times..

Re: What’s going on in the off-road forum
For sure the evolution of Facebook has taken the place of forums.
I for one am so greatful for this forum especially and the friendships that are a result of the time spent here
Mid December 2025 had Busk, Baja5, Doug Harmon and CWB hanging out in the Ocotillo Wells desert. 9 years almost to the day from the first time I took my car there.
