Drilling, welding, cutting intake manifold flanges. [T4->t3

Post by ned_glenn »

Hi all,

I've been thinking... maybe I should use the 1.8 intake manifold runners. The injectors will fit fine, and I won't have a mating problem at the peleum/airbox.

BUT... the heads are three bolt. If i were to drill out new holes the middle bolt would be fine, but the outer bolt holes won't have enough metal to go all the way arround the holes.

Can I have this situation or am I asking for warped intake flanges and cracked bakelight and nasty air leaks?

How hard would it be (for a welder)to build up the flange with some more metal. or I could cut off the flanges from an extra 3-bolt intake and have it welded on.

Any input?

Thanks
Ned

Aren't the three bolt flanges on a 914 porche? My bus motor has 4 bolt flanges. You might ask Jake Raby on that.
