New problem: Oil-Control valve.

Post by CptanPanic2 »

Well first off I read that the Type 4 is dual relief case, but I only see the one vavle. Am I right?

Ok the problem is that the damn valve is stuck up in the hole pretty high up. And I can't get it out. What do I need to do? And what would happen if I just left it like this?
Thanks.

The Type 4 does have another oil valve. It is located on the side of the crankcase, between the cylinders and the sump. It requires a socket like the CV joint socket, but is a 10mm (I think).

Get the valve out. It can't be good if the valve is stuck. Do whatever it takes to get it out. You could try a oil pressure relief tool for a Type 1, as I think the opening is about the same diameter.

If the galleys are that gummed up, you might want to drill/tap the galley plugs, thoroughly clean the galleys, and replace with AN plugs. This way you can be sure that all of the galleys are clean and unobstructed. Just a thought.

according to the info I have only some cases have the dual valves (mine is single too)
this is a pressure relief valve to avoid excess pressures from thick cold oil in the oil cooler. the other valve on some engines is an oil control valve to limit pressures overall. recommended removal of stuck plungers is to thread a 10mm tap into it but I have not tried it yet

a 10 mm tap is too small, but a 1/2in should work. I will get one today and try. I think the 10mm trick is for the type 1 cases, they must have smaller valves.

I fixed it, just used a 1/2in tap, and pulled out the valve. Now if I can just find a bit to get the other one out.
Thanks.
