Any Air-cooled Beetle of any year is the best. PROVIDING the body is in good shape and has no rust.

Still working on it... Hard to find someone who'll take payments. I'm actually talking to someone from this forum: http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/NonCGI/Fo ... 01030.html
I'll have to check it out.. He's listed so much done to it though that it sounds like it's had a lot of problems, but when you actually read everything most don't really affect the mechanics of the car. Any opinions?

Actually, I know her name but I don't know her... I do see Phil on a daily basis though.
I don't mind working on my car to maintain it or fix the little things so big things don't go wrong and I think that's half of the appeal of the vintage Beetle for me. I'm excited to learn! And if you know anyone in the Portland area - or with a three hour drive who's willing to work out some payments (with a down payment of course) then PLEASE let me know! And, thanks!!

NO! She has been happily married for 20+ years.
Her daughter Monica worked there also. As for payments, I Might know someone looking to sell thier bugs, however you will have to take care of the payment on your own. My friends take cash only or maybe trades for other vintage VW's. I found mine in the AutoTrader. It took 3 months of getting a new AutoTrader every Thursday. There you can see a picture of it so you can see if it is worth the drive. At $1.25 per week, thes is the way to go. The sunday paper and the Nickel Add's are also very helpful. Good luck with your search.

Okay, so I might not know her! *L* Yeah, I'm afraid payments are the only way I can go. I'm very reliable, but I have so many student loans that I can't get a decent rate on a car loan so I've saved up some money for a down payment and I'm working two jobs until I go back to school so I have money, just not enough to buy it in full.. but if you know any one who's willing to work with me please let me know because I'm dying to get a Bug!

Look anyways, You might be able to find a bug for $200.00. I just bought my second 1959 beetle last month on e-bay for $50.00. It is ONLY a pan and a shell, but it will save me $3800.00 on repairing the rust on my other 1959 beetle. You said you had money for a down payment on a car? You might be able to find someone in a bind who is moving accross the country and dose not want to move their bug. I have heard of stories of this and people end up getting bugs for DIRT CHEEP!!!
Just an idea,
Good luck
Jason

I assume you line in Beaverton, because you have a Nike web address. I, about 1 year ago, got a 1959 Beetle out of Monmouth, OR. I paid $1400.00. If you do go with a classic, make sure it has the 1600sp (12 volt) engine in it, or have one put in. This is the most reilable engine VW made (just my opinion). You will still have to tune it up once a month (adjust the valves, change the oil, air filters, and plugs, etc.) Bugs are full of fun stuff like this. Get use to it, find a worthy mechanic or shoot for a newer beetle with the warranty. The old beetles love to nickle and dime you to death, but on the bright side, the parts ONLY cost a nickle and a dime. (ha ha ha). Good luck with your search. I have lots of friends who might be able to help you locate one. e-mail me with questions

p.s. Do you know Lisa McKillips? She is a close friend of the family. She is Phil's Secertary.

I always like the 72/73 Supers.
With that package you get the DP engine, larger cgo space, strut suspension, BUT you retain the Dash, windshield, and interior of the original standards. Much easier to mount switches, radios, guages, etc.
