i can't be the only person in the world that has problems with water dripping into the dual webbers from the top corners of the decklid! it happens when i get caught in the rain. start-ups are diffacult and the engine runs rough until the water burns out. what can i do prevent this? is there a drip shield available or any other creative water divertion?

I have the same problem in my car. When you go and buy two four packs of Guinness they will usually double bag it. Got it? Crude but just remember to remove them before leaving to go out or you get a nice bubble gum pop. While driving thats difficult, I just end up taking the tops off and abosoring the gas/water with a lint free towel.

I've actually never had a problem with rain water entering my carbs. (see pic on website) Nothing special to stop it. I have however gotten condensation inside the distributor cap, which indeed causes my motor to run extremely rough. If the car is driven everyday, a little water getting into the carbs shouldnt be a problem. After it gets started I assume that after a few combustion cycles in the offended cylinder the water has evaporated. Unless of course you are not running air filters, just stacks, and water is just pouring into the carbs while parked. As that could cause some damage to the cylinder (water doesnt compress quite like air and fuel) bent rods and such could more than likely result. Although, if its not the cap that is "offending" your motor, perhaps build a little sheet-metal hat to bolt on top of the aircleaner lid?? (ideas!!) Chrome pieces and have them engraved or something.??

I had thought the same thing because i have a baja. I use to put little baggies over the air fliters before i washed it, but then i forgot one time and actually watch where the water went and it didn't get in the carbs so i don't bother with the bags any more.
As far as driveing in the rain i don't think it hurts it at all. The little water that might get in there might acually get some of the carbon out of the combustion chambers (heard something a while back about putting water down you carb to get carbon out) I tried it about a year ago on my 1600 and i really think it help but not much. The point is it didn't hurt it and i did it deliberately.

If its not broke don't fix it, but if it can be made better by all means do it!

I've never had that problem with my dual Kads, even driving through the whole state of Oregon raining the entire way with decklid stand-offs. Moisture in the distributor cap can be a son-of-a-bitch though!

I own a 54 Type 1 with dual Kadrons. I have had so much water leak through the carbs when the car was parked that it hydrolocked. I added a pair of Outerwear Prefilters and that seems to have solved the problem.
