You have to press out the pins, some heat may be helpful in this. Aircooled.net has oversized hinge pin kits I'm sure.

They are a pain to say the least heat will work, check in the Bentley and some fo the other manuals for reasonable instructions. I have them somwhere at the house. Email John @ aircooled or get on the vintagevw list and ask around they might have some foolproof methods.
