Thing patch panels?

Post by Jerry D »

Do patch panels or individual main body panels for the inside and outside of the Thing exsist, or am I going to have to make them?
If they are, out there, where is the best place to find them?
Thanks,
Jerry....

I think what your looking for is called a "skin". The only one I know of is for the front apron, at The THING SHOP. The same source, and I am sure a few others, may have some other pieces of NOS sheet metal, but they are getting rare. Call around and ask is about all you can do.

Other than that it's cut and paste from existing bodies. Good luck...

Depends what areas need to be replaced but, if you need metal with a "rib" in it, like a door sill, just use and old door. I understand the the rib is the same size. There a couple of doors on ebay right now for 10 bucks!!!
Good luck!
Michael

I need a rear lower rocker on the passenger side. It is currently enjoying atep fiberglass resto. I was planning on doing the door cut and paste action. I would prefer to have a real section if one is for sale at a resonable cost. NuVintage VW in Arvada,Colorado has a stash of nearly 100 Thing doors for sale. Email me off this list for my pals email to get a deal on a door. K-mann
