ive now had my drums skimmed - managed to take 'em to max vw limit before needing o/s shoes and theyve cleaned up really well. however.......... ive got some standard bug rear shoes (40mm wide) as recommended on here but i cant help thinking i can fit a pair of T3 rear shoes (45mm wide) as there appears to be enough room in the drum! what do you crazy yanks think ?

You could probably squeeze the extra width in, but there's a major difference in diameter (230mm vs 248.1).
One thing that off-road guys often do to increase rear brake bias is to graft on larger-diameter wheel cylinders, like 22mm fronts, in place of the 17½ or 19mm rears. You won't get as much shoe travel for the same volume of fluid displaced by the M/C so adjustment becomes more critical, but it will push the shoes harder for the same pedal pressure.
