Are they still in production down there?
Also how much would one be there?

No, they stopped production in 1980. You don't want one from there either. Since they are all over 22 years old, they are all destroyed. Most have been modified with Beetle front beams and Beetle swing axle transmissions and have been run into the ground, two or three times. The biggest problem for them is there are no spare parts available.

I have to admit the best original T181 I've ever seen was in Mazatlan Mexico. It was a 72 and when the owner told me it had the original top, I thought no way. But closer inspection showed the VW logos in all the plastic windows. The guy that owns it knows its value and is keeping it good. But the vast majority are JUNK! Its really sad to see them like the way they are.

There are plenty of Safaris in Mexico; anywhere from destroyed to mint;anywhere from $500 to $13,000; anywhere from Can Cun to Tijuana.

Hey Lastsafari, send me your e-mail address, I've got a couple of Safari questions for you. I'm in Mazatlan right now and am heading into DF next week. I would like to hear from you before then.
