I found another 73 Thing

about 25 miles away from me. It's been sitting in this guys back yard for almost 10 years. The engine turns over but needs a rebuild, there is surface rust (no cancer) and the brakes are seized... not to mention anything else that comes from sitting on its duff for 10 years...
Guy wants 2,000 and he wont budge. I can do all the body work myself without a problem. Engine gets tricky in my hands... I am just wondering if its worth it, i have money from selling my ghia. And plenty of time with this turd of a job market...
Let me know what you guys think, I know that theres another guy offering the same amount but he said he would let me have it since I tracked him down first... J

My wise mother once told me, if you have to ask if its worth buying, you either dont want it, or you cant afford it. In this case its both.

I paid 6K for a 73 in great condition and have spent nearly 2K to bring it up to speed (brakes,clutch,wheels, tires,uphostery, etc etc). These things are a hole to put money in. But I love driving mine and having people ask what the hell it is! Tell the guy $1200 cash...if he doesnt want it, find another. Bill

Last I heard he gave the guy who offered him 2,500 the finger and is going to sell parts at the next Pomona swapmeet...
This guy was a real nut case anyhow.

So as of today I am looking for a Thing, I have 11 months to get one ready for my sisters 16th birthday. Let me know if you guys find any. Thanks! J

Hi Everyone
I found yet another 73 VW Thing. This one is Near Detroit Michigan. Guy wants around $1800 for it. Email me if you want pics or info. It looks very rust free. And is complete (color is pink/brown though). Engine needs a tun and its not currently registerd in Michigan.

All in all not bad for the money, I wish I could afford this one. J
