Head gaskets?

Post by The_Dude »

Since I have to pull the heads to replace pushrod tubes, I assume I'll need to replace the head gaskets. It looks like I can purchase to different thicknesses. .040 and .060. Which ones should I get? I've got a balanced 1600DP with an Engle 110 cam. Thanks!

They don't use head gaskets and shouldn't have any in there.

According to what I have read and my research, a copper gasket can in fact be there. Normally for changing Deck Height to fix compression to a certain amount.
It would seem that you need to research your engine a bit to determine the current compression ratio.
Since it is a 1600 though I doubt you need to change anything and doubt it has the "gaskets" since you are not running a stroker motor.

Wow, no gaskets? I learn something new every day. I guess I should start reading my VW engine rebuild book before asking stupid questions. Thanks guys!
