Is a Ghia Pan from horn to rear fork, the same as the Thing?

VW's aircooled mini SUV. Great for riding in the country, or cruising the beach.

Is a Ghia Pan from horn to rear fork, the same as the Thing?

Post by peterjager »

Would like to know if someone knows if they are the same? The reason i ask is that my Thing tunnel has a lot of pits in it and some other damage, so if i can replace it with a Ghia pan.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Peter

Ghia pan

You can use the Ghia pan, but the Thing pan has many mods done
in the rear section. The housing is heavily gusseted, the rear has
several more inches of lift built in than a Ghia Pan.
The Ghia pan would only be suitable for a lowrider type Thing !

We have the 2 1/2 lowering spindles plus we are doing the original front beam with dropping up to another 2".

Yes, we are dropping it for the low look.

Can we use the frontend from theThing?

What year pan do we need ? We have 73 Thing.

All help is greatly appreciated, Peter

You can use the spindles on a beetle front beam and sell your thing beam for a fair amount of money.
