103 jug dimensions?

Post by Piledriver »

OK, I have a new job, and have after hours access Bridgeport mill, 8" lathe, etc, all good stuff used for prototype work...

Does anyone have the dimensions for the ~103 wasser jugs, and the head/block cutout sizes?
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Sorry, I don't have any of these sitting around.... I would suggest you get the set your going to run, and take the specs dirrectly from them.

What are you doin', putting a wasser motor in a 914?

If you're referring to 103s for a T4 motor, forget it. I won't say its impossible but I dare anyone to do it. I do have those parts sitting here , and there are a lot of reasons they won't fit.

The ones I am referring to are for a wasser... Oettenger?

I suspect head sealing will not be an issue with what I have planned.

Staying water cooled, and destined for a 914. Length could be made
~.030-040 longer, skip the gasket and try for a tad less rubber gasket crush.

Bore is flexible, looking for suitable modern pistons with the appropriate
crown for swirl. Toyata Tundras run about 10.5:1 CR on regular pump gas,
about the right size, possible good candidates, and I have a good connection.

And yep, My Evil Plan is 6061T6 jugs, and have the bores nickasil plated.

maybe a turbo (low boost) , and almost certainly CIS.

I figure 103x76 (2533) , all alumunum, blown/injected and intercooled
could be very sturdy, and capable of moving a 914 "briskly"....

In the eyes of a lathe, wasser cylinders are trivial compared to Shads Nickies.
(None of those nasty fins, just 2 o-ring grooves and a precision thick walled tube...)

In case I wasn't clear, I was going to make the jugs myself, and send them out for
final bore sizing and plating. If it turns out to be beyond my capabilities, I have good
connections locally, with great equipment, and 20+ years of making prototypes.
Cheap, too.

I was just wondering if anyone had the case and head cut sizes, and hopefully
the top and bottom OD of the existing jugs (why reinvent the wheel)

Dozens of places do the plating... But first things first.---see what fits, and make plans.

The only thing bothering this plan is bolt stretch... Higher if the jugs are alloy...

Good Plan..... :~)

Just get your pistons, and build a mock-up barrel... You can design your own specs

Studs aren't an issue... your water cooled.

I would bet that OEM studs would be fine on an air cooled motor (type I) W/ alum cylinders anyway....

The platers charge around $100.00 per cylinder (4 at a time)... This includes honing to your piston (+ freight)

Lose the gaskets, mic a crushed gaket, flycut the sealing surface of the wasser head that amount or more... in this case less "crush" on the water seal channel gasket, is more... :~) I have proven that these motors hold a better seal this way.

It takes something semi-interesting like this to get me to react to a post anymore... Good Luck
