Installing New Wiring Harness

Post by mpernice »

I'm replacing the wiring harness from the fuse box back to engine. Is it easier to pull the old one with a tag line out the back (by engine comp) or from the front?

Any other hints to make this job easier?

TIA

When I replaced my wiring harness many years ago, I pulled the old harness from rear to front.
When you put your new wire harness in using the tag line, tape up the harness tight and tape up the tag line tight, use soap/water, windex, or any slippery liquid as you pull the harness back thru starting from the front and work your way to the rear.

So the KG wiring harness is not visible inside like it is with the beetle?

On the beetles it runs along near the floor in a groove set in the bottom edge of the body - next to the heater channel - and is visible when you pull the side carpet up. It only needs to be "pulled through" between the engine and the back seat area, and down into the cabin through the rubber grommet in the luggage area floor up front.

I don't have a KG so I don't know the exact arrangement on those.

It goes through a grommet in the front trunk and runs along the top of the heater channel, hidden by the aluminum door threshold. Under the kickpanel, then rides along the top of the LR wheel well and through another grommet into the engine bay.
