shakin' brakes - help please?

Post by chinacat »

got new brakes in my 73 about 300 miles ago. When I press on the brakes - especially at speeds over 45mph - I can feel a slight shake. This just started happening about 50 miles ago.

Any troubleshooting tips are greatly appreciated. thanks.

Shaking in the front end when applying brakes? I would suspect a ball joint or tie rod end.

yeah - that's what baffles me - I forgot to mention that I had the whole front end replaced a while back (new ball joints, new axle beam, tie rods, etc.). I'm not getting any vibrations as she's moving down the road - she's actually steady as a tank. It's just when I hit the brakes (and usually when I press hard), that I feel a vibration coming up through the brake pedal.

Can new tires do this? I just got a set of kelly metric's (205s, I think). They were balanced correctly & all.

I have heard of warped rotors on disk brakes making feedback to the pedal. That is a common problem.
