Snap, crackle, pop

Hello all,

Well I am sure if not positive that you have heard this topic before and have searched STF but to no avail for a definite answer.

Setup: Car was driven all day, highway, street, did a small drag, and then was returning from the cycle shop.

Problem: Car was at cycle shop and started hard and wouldnt stay running. High rpms is the only thing that kept it running through most of the 1 1/2 mile drive home. It stalled 4 times and backfired more than once. I had this on one occassion before and seemed to right itself. Car didnt have blow by like before which kinda mades me wonder if it is now running to lean. But help is needed here, suggestions on what to check and what is it that is giving me such problems.

Might have yerself a plugged idle jet or possible ya burned a valve.

Dont know how prone the Kadrons are to having a plugged idle circuit, but thats something to check on.

With the car running try clipping a timing light to each one of the wires...that will let you know if you have spark on each wire...not necessarily good spark...but spark.

So, replacing a burnt valve would include what? Is it hard....professional? Take the engine out type thing?

OK, so my thoughts that it might have been the engine running a little hot last night and that was it. Well, I went out today and started her up. It started up fine and seemed to be running a little on the lean side. I decided to fiddle with the carbs a little bit, ie. lowbudgets website on fiddling with the idle valve, and decided to take it for a qucik spin around the block. Well at first it was ok, but then the back firing started in and I can feel a lose of power. I cant even get the engine to rev past the first shift mark on the speedo gauge on any gear for that matter. I am kinda at a lose here. Anyone care to help?

Check to make sure that some joker hasn't switched a wire on the dizzy cap.

You know, 71Vdubber, that was the first advice that my father, who had a 56 and a 69 said to me, oddly enough. you both may be correct. I shall see tomorrow. Maybe people can be such a-holes. We shal see.
