preparation for a long trip in HOT weather in my 411
I'm about to go on a trip to the southwest in my 411. The engine has only 10,000 miles on it, and it has been pampered here in the cool Pacific Northwest. I drove my 412 across the country last summer and used 15w-50 Mobil 1 synthetic oil. Right now my 411 has Castrol 20w-50 regular oil in it. I already have a case of Castrol to use; but should I go out and buy four quarts of Mobil 1 and use that for this trip? Any other hot weather tips out there? thanks from Kirk

I'm using 15W50 Mobil as well and I like it. I've also heard that the extra Zinc content of Diesel oil is also good for the valves etc. I'd like to hear others opinions on these two oil types, what they would use, synthetics or Diesel ...
I'm planning a trip and we're about 90 degrees up here in the Toronto area and my 'Lil Ty4 will be working hard, albeit in my Bus ......

A full tune-up of course. But carefully check teh valve adjustment and header and exhaust gaskets. Leaking exhausts cause localized hot spots in the summer. Is it injected? If so...go on a binge to check all of your vacume lines and tubes. The Most common damage to a type 4 with fuel injection is actually form fuel mixture running lean/rich from vacume leaks. 90 degree heat should not really even stress a properly tuned type 4....so don't worry too much. The low 100's here have never given it a problem.
Oh....and for gods sake...make sure that the engine compartment seals and lid sseals are working...that will get you. Ray
