My Drag Bug on centrelines and old street tyres

Post by Oldskool »

Hey this is my release from the crap of the world, heaps of fun at the strip and on the street.
I am running a 1963 beetle with plenty of fiberglass and not a lot of anything else besides a 2332cc Superflow/IDA motor.

My best time to date is 11.867 @ 114.30 Mph. Hoping for some mid elevens with new tyres, something sticky!

Your pic isn't working for me, but I'd like to see it. Maybe post a link?

SWEET BUG!!

I have a few Qs about the engine. What did it cost to build? What are some of the specs? From the video, Im assuming this is a weekend warrior/drag bug. How does it run on the street(like how does it cruise on the highway, ect)? Also what is your tranny setup and what parts are fiberglass?

Thanks alot.

Thanks 1963 Bug,
weekend warrior
I like that...
The motor is a 2332cc, with an AS41 shufflepinned case, 84mm wedgemated DEEs Engineering crank with Porsche journals, Bugpack rods, Mahle 94mm piston, total seal rings, ported S/F heads, magnum straight cuts, Bugpack spilt duration cam, Berg 1.52 ratio rockers, Berg 160,000psi pushrods, 48 IDAs w/45mm venturis, 13/4 extractors with a 3" Magnaflow muffler.
As the motor is it still makes for a very driveable package. if it is kept between 1000 and 4400rpm it is quite smooth, not as nice as my street 2180, but not as much fun either - however cruising on the highway - $h!t no.
In Australia getting the parts here and the dollar kills the fun, a mate of mine has just spent close of $14000 AUD on his motor with similar specs.
It has a fiberglass decklid, bonnet and guards.
Thanks for your interest, Tom
