Installing a GBE Shifter

Post by Bob Ingman »

all shifters I have ever installed were simply a two bolt off and two bolt on swap.
Yes, the nylon shift bushing is usually the reason they do`nt shift smoothly. Uncouple the shift rod from within the tunnel. Slide it out the front. Little trap door by the beam. Slide the old one off and install new bushing. Lube well and reinstall. A few minutes here will insure a smooth shifting mechanism. Good luck. Bob Ingman

I installed a GBE locking shifter in my 181 too and I had to replace the coupler in the rear and the bushing in the front. What a world of difference! No regrets. On a scale of 1-10, replacing the shifter and bushing/coupler is probably a 5 or less.
