15 PSI is FUN!

Post by purple69 »

after getting all of the bugs in my engine all worked out i decided to bump up the boost. i went from 5-10 PSI that was a bit more exciting..........but going from 10-15 was incredible. its unbelievable how you just get set back in your seat when the turbo spools up. now that i have a quick bug......i can only think of one thing......making it faster. i think some plans are in the work for a 2276 EFI turbo when i'm done school

It's great isn't it.....I sure thought 17psi was on my 1915 and the rail it was in is fairly light which makes it even better.

any tips on getting 15psi to run well? What kind of bugs did you have to work out? What size engine did you run 15psi on?
I'm starting to get anxious to finish off my 2276 water/air intercooled blow through (48idf's) lump with what you're describing!

Speed is great, just make sure you have the brakes and handling up to par.

i'm still having a bit of trouble with my jetting. and i'm getting a bit of detonation up that high. i think its time to get working on a water injection setup.

my bug will be super rich at half throttle to WOT but it seems like if i'm trying to maintain a constant speed below half throttle it leans out. some smaller air correctors are on the way.....we'll see how that helps

if anyone has any advice to offer i'm all ears

Using smaller aircorrection jets will fatten up the mixture at full throttle, but will not cure the lean condition at cruise-speeds...
To make it happen, you can do 2 things:

open the mixture/idle screws at the base of your carb a little more and if that isn't enough, use slightly larger idle jets.

Alot of people don't know the effect of idle-jets, but I can assure you: they do much more than just provide fuel for idling!!
The idle-jets provide fuel up to the midrange and only then the mains begin to take over. When this happens depends on the size of the venturi's and the used E-tubes. Normally it's between 2000 and 2500 RPM.

Good to hear you're using a Lamda sensor, it's the only way to find out what your carb is doing

Good luck on the jetting!!

ps. how big are the mains you're using??
