I did that conv. by using a 2.1 ltr 76.4 mm crank in a type one case. Since the case was in need for a line bore I had all the mains opened up (line bored) to the same OD. The 1st main bearing being WBX at the end of the procedure. And of course add to this the type 4 flywheelseal. I used a 215 mm type 4 flywheel with the WBX crank. With the 228 mm WBX flywheel excessive clearencing was necessary inside the transmissions bellhousing. Therefore the 228 mm flywheel and pessure plate assembly should be avoided if possible. Use some clearanced (for stroker) type 1 rods in order to keep case clearencing to a minimum. For pics. and some more info visit www.eckstein-kuebel.de/WBXKwT1.htm. Good luck.

2.1 crank in a type one case
Ok. I'm totally intrigued with the idea so today I went to the junkers and scored a free crank ourt of a MV code engine but it had thrown a rod through the case and broke the cam.
the affected rod journal looks black but can be welded up and reground I think. everything else is std. and looks really clean. brought home the bearings and seals too. dist. drive and crank gears. left the rest there in the trash. I have a good 1975 type one case and I want to use it for the crank and new 94 mm p&c's to get a good street engine for my 71 Super Beetle.I'm gonna get a type 4 bus flywheel, should I have it lightened?
Can any one tell me more than what is posted on this forum? What instructions do I need to give my machine shop for the type IV line bore and seal fitments? I will probably need some .010 undersize bearings for std. line bore. Thanks alot.

Hi Ulrich,
Nice description on your site!
Its just that I don't feel that the 3,3 mm 'deck heigth' (kolbenruckstand) gives you a good 'swirl' in the combustion area, like even a stock engine has. With all the effort that went into your engine why didn't you machine 1,5-2mm off the cylinders to get a more tight deck?
Thanks,
Walter
