Exhaust ideas for my thing, anyone?
Work on engine is nearly finished- now I need some advice on an exhaust- I've read all about the woes of the "Kymco Group Buy" but I'm still interested in their Thing Exhaust- the one with the collector above the bottom of the engine- how does it fit and look on the thing? I'm thinking about going for that exhaust along with the tucked under (hidden) muffler. Good idea or bad? The only turnoff for me with the muffler being where it is will be having to remove it to adjust valves- any thoughts on this? By the way, I'm close enough that I could drive to the shop and pick the unit up so I'm hoping to avoid any "misunderstandings" with those folks. Thanks.

I dont know about Kymco anymore. I havent been in since Jeff is gone, but Im not hopeful.
Ive heard nothing great about the Berg 181 exhaust. Actually, Ive heard nothing about the Berg exhaust except that it exists. Dont think many run it. Berg is local too if you wanted to check it out.
I have the S&S, its okay, just okay. You have to remove it to adjust valves, and I think it transfers heat into the heads.
Ive seen a new system that German Motor Works makes for the Thing. Its a close copy of the S&S kit, but have fixed all the bummers of the S&S kit. Might be worth checking out. I think its kinda pricey,,,,but then again all their stuff is.

I have a 2 year old Berg Thing header on my 1600 DP. It's only 1 3/8" but I'm happy with the combination of 009, pertronix, 36 dual dells, stock heads. It's stone reliable, relatively quiet, and my daily driver. The fit of the Berg extractor is perfect, no bending, prying, and I can adjust the valves. Is the KYMCO header 1 3/8 or 1 1/2? Merged? I had Berg add the 02 sensor for my haltech and I think I've got it dialed in pretty good.

The Kymco header is 1-1/2" non-merged...just like a big street header.
