Rear Brake question
Hey, can anyone tell me if the emergency brake plate that goes from one shoe to the other should face up so the groove faces up on the right side(pass.) so that the spring fits in it like the left side brakes? If it does like the left side then the double cutout long cut out will be in the back side of the e-cable pull. They always say to do one side at a time so you can use that other as reference but if I do the right side like the left the plate is upside down. Also, I got after market drums and they are thicker(twice as thick as org.) in the front where they fit on the hub so it isnt flush. Does this matter? Also what kind of lube do you use and where on the brakes? Thanks Bill

The plate cut-outs are the governing factor for which way the plates go. The clip that goes around the spring should fit either way to hold it steady. There is no ube anywhere in the brake system....oh...wait..turn the starts all the way out...clean the whle assembly in chemtool...dry...and coat all the threads and the bore that the star assembly slides into...lightly...with anti-sieze compound.
The after market brake drums may have to have the inside hole slightly chamfered. As long as they seat flat against the stub...they are generally no problem. Check them for roundness before installing. Most are way out of round. Swap them with stock from where you got them till you get straight ones. Its more desirable to have the two part German ones...turned. Ray
