ball joints

Post by pajac42 »

I need to remove the ball joints from my trailing arms. Are they pressed in like a type 1 or is there a locking ring involved. Anyone have any tricks to getting them out?

Yes they are pressed in. You need to use a very, very strong press. I recently did mine, it took everything I and the press had to get them out.

Does the ring to the inside, that looks like you would use a spanner wrench on it, come out with the ball joint or is it part of the arm?

that is the camber adjusting nut. it comes out with the balljoint or it may just fall off when you remove the steering knuckle. it is a tapered fit around the balljoint shaft, and also into the steering knuckle. these sometimes need to be pressed off the balljoint, as they fuse onto them. but usually they can be knocked off the balljoint fairly easily.
