2.1 case

Post by Cam »

Hey everyone!

Alrighty... I bought the longblock that I mentioned in my previous post. It should be arriving in the next couple of days. However I'm starting to think buying sight unseen was'nt the best thing to do since it has a hole in the case.
I've seen alloy V8 cases mended and was wondering would this be possible on the wasser?

Here is the reply the guy sent me in regard to the hole:

"have not split the case yet. It appears that the conrod bearing for cyl 1 gave in and hence knocked a hole in the case, about 40mm away from the centre of the case."

If anyone has any comments good or bad on this they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Aluminum can be welded. The waterboxer is aluminum, so it you have the piece it knocked out, it can be welded back in. If not you should be able to make a patch.... Hope it didn't tear anything else up.

Cool, thanks!

I've e-mailed the guy and asked if he has the piece to please put it in with the motor.
I feel abit nervous just jumping in and buying the motor. But I guess I'll just have to take what comes to me.

What other damage is likely to have been caused by the bearing (and rod by the sounds of it) letting go?

Thanks again,
Cam
