electrical contact that fits onto shifter

Post by steve_1125 »

I have a 1974 automatic LJet 412. The electrical contact on my shifter is broken. Therefore, my backup lights do not work and if I go from drive to reverse the starter kicks in, horrible noise! I am in search of a used part. Anyone know of interchangeability with other VWs, or a 3rd party, such as JC Whitney, who sells this part :?:

Thanks!

The back-up light switch should be the same as the type 3 auto switches. Ray

Thanks Ray. As the part can be used for both type 3s and 4s, is there an aftermarket company that makes it? Or am I still stuck with looking for a used one. I did not have much luck with an on-line word search. Unfortunately I don't know the exact name the parts companies are calling it.

Look carefully at the ones on the automatic from the early rabbits...up through the 80's. They look very similar. Ray

Ray:

I just want to confirm. I am talking about the contact that fits right onto the shifter (physically connected to the automatic stick). Are we on the same page?

Thanks :!:

Did some more research. What I need is the part of the neutral safety switch that fits onto the stick (shifter)

Any thoughts regarding compatiblity?

Thanks!

can you email or post a pix of the part you need? I have a few pieces laying around but they are T3, I do know where there is a possible donor T4 but I can't get there for few days.

It should be the same as type 3. The shifter mechanism is essentially the same....the tranny is identical...so is the wiring diagram. That is the neutral safety switch on the auto. The rabbit has one that looks suspeiciously similar...but is mounted slighttly different. Ray
