buying sheet metal tomorrow to repair rusted out spots on the sides of my Thing above the jacking point. Does anyone know what gauge the sheet metal is?? 20?

Dog wish I knew what to tell you about the gauge #s . Perhaps taking a sample with you will get you in the ballpark. I think it really don`t matter all that much for the rockers. You`re going to be using some filler in there anyway and it is not a matter of structural integrity.

Buying Metal???? We find patch pieces all day long from computer cases -- works great... maybe not as big as you may need.

I always find buying a thicker sheet makes it easier to form & weld (but then again I'm a hack).

I took a small piece to the sheet metal shop and they checked it....it turned out to be 18 gauge.....just in case someone wanted to know....

We must all once again remember the oldest Thing rocker repair trick. Buy a funky thing door and cut out the parts. Remember, the door ribs and body ribs interface. Just my dos pesos.. RW

Or you can do like I did and cover the entire area with aluminum diamond plate once repair and replacement has been completed. Best of luck. Bob Ingman
