High performance forced induction Wasser question

Post by Secoh »

I'm in the process of fitting a wasser into a superbug for some track work. It'll be running a fair bit of boost. I have no doubt that the crank/rods/oil system will survive my intentions with what I am using, what concerns me is the spindly way the heads and case is held together. I have my doubts that the heads won't lift under boost, considering they are a thin stretch stud and only torqued up something like 30nm.

Anyone had any success or failures with turboing these motors? any tricks I should know to stop it blowing itself apart?

do a search for marcothesteamengine, he has a well developed turbo wasser. You can get arp stainless high tensile studs to replace the stock ones but of course there expensive! I don't know if there is an issue in the first place tho'.

from what I know Marco's waterboxer block is currently stock and has put up with a hell of a caning admirably. He is putting together a new block though, with much sturdier caseand head bolts. It really looks excellent, some serious work has been done on it.
Due to the fact these bolts rust easy and even stock engines break head studs with alarming frequency it definately is worth the trouble of upgrading them.
