412 Seats

Post by DeathBus »

OK, I am looking to recover my 73 412 fasty's seats. Are the fronts the same as the Super or Standard Beetle of the same time? And what about the rear, is it the same as a Type 3? Thanks

Ok...the fronts are unique. They are similar to nothing. The rear is identical to a 69 type 3 with a folddown center arm rest.

To have the front seats done...will run you about $600. They are complex.

BUT.....I have spoken to sew-fine. For $450 dollars...they will *make* the pattern and seat cover set for me...if I send them in a seat cover to duplicate. That means that the next person who wants 412 seats will pay the same as a super beetle...because now the pattern will be on record. That would be about $250 per pair. Plus...sewfine has a huge selection of great fabrics. Tweeds...velour..vinyls etc.

If we can get a few people together ...and all split the cost of the *mapping* of my seat cover pattern....it will be cheaper for everyone . Thats like splitting about $200 in costs....anyone ineterested? Ray

Seats

Hey my seat guy said that he could still get the seat patterns but had to get a close match for the bamboo vinyl. and make the pleats. I only had the drivers done and had him restuff the others. The driver came out so sweet though I want to do the others with new fabric! I think he did the job for 580ish. Good luck, Bill

Bamboo vinyl? You mean "basket weave" style? Actually none of the type 4's used that. I have seached for over 20 years and never found patterns available. They were also never comercially produced as repair kits. It was a dealer only item. Are you sure you have stock 411/412 seats? Ray

Its Bamboo Leatherette per the vw interior book? It has the stock seats with the map pouch behind the frt seats(screw down backs) and the center arm rest in the rear. Look like fake pleats embosed in vinyl.

Yep..those would be the ones. They have the "lines" embossed down the front of the seat back. Just never heard it called bamboo. It has a leatherette grain. Yeah they are rather complex patterns. The rear seats are the identical pattern to about a 69 type 3 fastback with fold down armrest. The rear seats are easy to have done by sew fine. Since they use the type 3 pattern and have it in stock. the rear seat is about $125-175. Ray
