Yes, the type 3 seals are very close in cross section....but....they are ungodly in cost...and you will need at least 2.5 sets of them. Since they are molded with molded curves....a lot of the square pattern windows from the squareback will be useless....so you will end up needing like 2 front windshield and two rear windshield sets to finsish the car. In type 3 language...thats a lot of $$. Also I have heard that type 3 seals are getting hard to come by....and the quality sucks. Ray

The WCM seals my Buddy put on his t3 fasty look pretty good, BUT they have not been out in the sun for an extended period of time.

I do feel the Bus seals are the way to go.

You are going to have some fun now. Bear in mind....those should all be 4-speed models. The clutch master, clutch slave and tranny are totally unique. Get with me about what needs to be done on the tranny. They will last forever....butt hey have a couple of high milage type defects that will kill every obe of them if not corrected. Ther are "0" parts available for the 4 speed (save for some bearings). They are sweet trannys. The 2 doors handle sweet too. I also have a solujtion to finding the factory clutch master and slave...that will allow you to use the much easier to get vanagon master and audi 5000 slave. If you have any you are parting out...I would take a rear fender or two. Those are unique to the 411/412 2-door. Ray

Ray, thanks

I am going to pick them up next week and see what I have got.

I have always wanted a 2 door because I knew they came with 4 speeds, hopefully they still shift well, part of the deal is that I get a spare tranny ALSO!

The parts car REALLY isnt a parts car, all that has been done to it is had the front suspension removed. If I wanted to, I am pretty friendly with one of the local salvage yards here who has 5 or 6 411/12's I could always go and pull a suspension off one of those. BUT it has been swapped over to dual carbs, and I really want to swap them out to one of my vans and put the (yikes) progressive  from the van onto the parts car.

So total I am getting
3 cars all with engines all with trannies the only thing missing is a front suspension and a few turn signals.

A spare tranny

A spare 1.8 litre Engine

A spare Gas tank

I beleive some body panels (Ray if there is a spare rear fender your more than welcome)

and boxes (notice the plural) of fuel injection and motor parts.

I know, I'm going to be venturing into the parts-extinct 411/412 world. I've read this forum for quite a while. I've almost bought a couple of T4's in the past. Now it looks like I'm going to actually do that.
Oh, and Doug, the past couple of days I've been looking at every 411/412 website I can find. All it took was letting me drive the 412 one time and I'm hooked!

Adam lets just hope the Gold (the one with the burned piston) has good floors, the pics I have seen of it, the tires are deflated and it's sitting on the ground, the only good thing about it though is that unlike Beetles, 412's dont need a floor to hold their structure. We can do what my Brother In Law does with his Corvairs, find some old refridgerators and cut the metal out. I AM TRUELY EXCITED ABOUT THIS, can you imagine our cruise in's with 3 412's?

Well maybe I should not have gotten so excited about this, the guy backed out of the deal, told me we were all good to go, then backs out, I hate people that pull this crap.

Uh....actually they do need a floor. Possibly even more than a type 1. They are a full unibody car. There are a couple of points where the rear beam is bolted that are especially susceptable to rust. The entire structure is interdependant. The good thing about that, is that the parts mainly just need to be connected together. If you have some large holes in the floor...but no structural bolt points gone...you can just weld in flat patches and undercoat over them. Ray
