off road lights

Post by ericj8 »

This question is for those Things with off-road lights.

What brand and model do you have on your Thing? How much did you pay?

I am currently thinking of getting some Hella 500s. 2 pencil beams and 2 spread beam.

Thanks,
Eric

That sounds like a good plan Eric. Be sure you are wired for high electrical output to handle the additional load. I would think a 90w alt would do it. What are you using now? Some off-roaders mount a second alt just for this purpose. It can be installed on a bracket like an American car and really not interfere with anything. Hope others have some input in this. The off-road forum might produce answers as well. Best of luck. Bob Ingman

Bob,

Much like the larger trucks, a second battery is the ticket. Durring the day it will charge. You will need to install a switched circuit that you can get at any RV store. This will allow the primary battery to charge first, then the backup can charge.

This with the 90 amp should do the trick. Make sure that you use deep cycle batteries, starting batteries will not take the deep discharge for very long.
