Weight of the Thing

Post by 74 Thing »

Has anybody here ever actually put their Thing on a scale to see how much it weighs-just curious?

I didnt see the info on Hanno's site. I once had mine on a scale and it was right around 2000lb. It was a scale at the local recycling yard.

Matt on the road test section of Hannos site they list the thing as tested at 1920 lbs curb weight and 2290 lbs test weight(must have included driver + some gear). Best of luck. Bob Ingman

Why does everyone make such a big deal about the weight of a Thing when considering engine size and transmission gearing. According to the owners manual the unladed weight is only 11 lbs more than a standard 74 bug and 88 lbs LESS than a superbeetle. I am tring to find a good engine and transmission combination for city and freeway driving. I want to do this right the first time. The current original set up is a real DOG. I have considered the T4 but would like to stay with the T1 with the right modifications. Any ideas ? It's a 74 and needs to run cool in the so. cal. heat.
