I`m going to put a cap on this thread because K-mann contacted me with word that he just bought the entire setup from a 924. However this is good information for anyone still needing these parts. Best luck. Bob Ingman

I actually got a 85 944 Porsche axle assembly complete via ebay for $50. I have a real Thing (ha ha) for 85 944 Porsche parts it is the single year that certain suspension and brake parts were used. The German CV parts at doghouse look great and the price is not bad. Espcially compared to buying 4 German Lobros at $80 each. K-mann

I just got my Thing in Colorado a few weeks ago. I actually want to use a 911 or 5 rib bus tranny, T4 engine, 930 CV's axles, a lift kit and bigger wheels. I am trying to figure out now what all I need. I never have done any off-road setups before so it?s all new to me. IF I use all these Porsche parts maybe I can start prefixing the number and call my bucket car a "Porsche 181". With 911 style fan shroud under the lid some may begin to wonder :-) not really even though they are now building SUVs themselves which is really funny. Talk about wanna-bees.

I am painting it soon and looking for an artist to do a Vokl logo on the hood or some were else on the car, to sorta match me and the kids snowboards. Their boards are Black and Orange same color as the Thing and its role bar so the snowboards strapped on the side of cage should look pretty cool.

I'm still thinking about the orange and black combo for Thing. The boards are black on top with an orange base on the bottom. A white Vokl logo (a big fancy V) is on top and a black one on the bottom. The sides of the boards, between the base and top, are also orange and have the name STING, (in a black wide font), recessed on each. I was thinking about black from the bottom of the doors down on the Thing leaving the underling orange exposed also spelling out STING or maybe Thing or some combination of both. If anyone reading this ramble has any good ideas about black an orange paint schemes let me know.
