Hi all,
I have a set of Weber ICT 34's on my stock 1600.I find that the
intake manifolds for the carbs are rubbing against the engine
compartment and are not allowing the manifolds to seat on the heads
properly.Has anyone run into this.I'm asking before I start trimming
body metal. The transmission mounts are good and there is no engine
sag.

Waynek you should be rubbing on the rubber engine seal long before rubbing on metal. Seems like the better fit you have at the head the more away from the body the manifolds will be drawn. Body metal is quite tweakable for fits like this and I would try that before actually removing body metal. As a second resort you might find also removing metal from the manifolds to gain a bit of additional clearance.
The only duals I have run in the Thing were dual Kads on a T-1 engine, dual 36 Dells on a T-4 (huge manifolds) and dual Solexes on another T-4 pancake. All fit well without interference problems so probably the car has been rear-ended at one time and is a bit out of line. Thats why I say try tweaking first. Best of luck. Bob Ingman

Thanks Bob,
This car has no indication of an accident, the manifolds are rubbing tightly on the rubber and I've developed a vacum leak on the right side
which make the engine run rough at idle. I know it's sucking air as I
can turn the air screw in all the way and the engine keeps running.
The carbs have been sync using syncro meter etc. If I remove the manifold, there are rub marks on it.I assume that you mean for me to
grind off a bit of the manifold at that spot,the question would be, how
much can be down without destroying it?

Sure its not after-market cylinder head tin causing the problem?? I had problems with my tin on some Kadrons.....

I have a pair of Dell 45s with big honkin high rise manifolds on my thing and they come nowhere close to the body metal. Is the body closer to the manifold on one side than the other. I ask this because I suspect that your car has been bent so that the engine compartment metal is closer to the engine on one side than the other. A tree fell on my Thing and did this to the roll bar. I have seen this kind of sideways tweek on several vehicles. My big manifolds and carbs are very difficult to get bolted down because of their excessive size and they come nowhere near body metal.

Wayne repaired body damage will not be visable to the eye. You have to measure to discern the difference from side to side. I would still tweak the area you need room in regardless of the reasons why the condition exist. If things are that tight try shaving the rubber seal to gain the clearance needed. Best of luck. Bob,
The car is in the body shop at this moment,expect it back today.
Installed new rear fenders and had new pieces welded in the fender
mounting area.
The back bumper has a slight bend in it and the side piece that
bolts to the fender is off by about half inch.This may be my problem
right there.I really will not know until I get the car back in my garage
and I make some measurements.The fender problem is on the same side as the manifold leak.
