Here is the problem with that picture. That is the early slave for the early transmission. I have only seen two of those trannys in my life. One is sitting on a shelf...where it has been for about 20 years. I will buy it when I get bored or desperate. They had slightly weaker sysnchros. Chances of anyone having one of those tranny's is rarel. And if so..its easy to retro fit an Audi 5000 slave.
I have been thinking about mods for rebuilding the original slave. I can have decent U-cups made. I had them made in 1993. That one lasted 4 years. The problem is this. The tolerance on the bore needs to be brought down and made very smooth. I have been speaking to a shop that can nickle plate them for pretty cheap. Then lap them smooth...no honing. The stock piston needs to be modfied. It must have the rim closest to the spring...reduced in diameter by a few thousandths to allow fluid to pass by...to inflate the cup and lubricate the edges of it. Also there is too much piston out in front of the cup. It drags and cocks in the bore, allowing worn cups to vent past it. I am exploring turning a band about 15mm wide around the piston to allow installing a teflon or torlon bushing/packing strip on the piston. It keeps the piston centered in the bore and makes the position of it more precise and wear less.
I already know how to install the audi 5000 cylinder simply by making a bracket. I will be set to cast high temp silicone outer boots for the slave in the fall. ray
