I was using a screwdiver near the voltage regulator and accidentally earthed a terminal causing a spark. Now the gnerator light stays on. Is this indicative of a broken voltage regulator.
There was nothing wrong previously with the charging system.

So I replaced the regulator and the light still comes on.
I am not getting a charge at the battery so I tested the output of the generator with the wires disconnected - as the revs go up so do the volts - all the way to 90v and yet previous advice says the voltage should only go as high as 30v (12v).
Would anyone have the faintest idea??

Anyone knows the answer of this old question.
Measured a generator yesterday with the regulator disconnected and got way over 70 volts. Generator change? All I read about is 30-25V unloaded...
Original problem is no charge and flickering gen-light (increase strengh at high rpm)
