JC Whitney 412 Parts

Post by 67 T1 »

All,
Just got a new JC Whitney catalog, has many 412 'specific' parts (or at least noted as such). Of interest:
Heat exchanger: $180
Engine gasket set: 1700cc $50; 1800-2000cc $60
Elec fuel pump: $130
Airflow meter: $170
Aux Air Valve: 71-73 $60; 74 $45
etc...

Neither condoning nor endorsing, just bringing to light. www.jcw.com/vw

Yikes !! Just went to the web site I listed, couldn't find the 412 parts I list previously. If you're interested, request a catalog I guess, or, just disregard altogether. Sorry folks, thought I had found something useful. dennis

I have had bad luck with JCW

I have tried to order Type 4 parts thru JC Whitney, and have recieved printed notices in the mail that they were unavailable. I think I tried to get a dash pad and package shelf carpet, maybe a carpet set too.

Don't trust what they've printed. Maybe the engine parts that overlap with the bus are available, but I've had no luck with Type 4 specific stuff.

Hey, I copied my 5/30 entry below. It seems to be an active link on their site. I would still like to get your thoughts. Thanks, Steve

A while back someone told me that JC Whitney was selling an airflow meter for the 1974 LJet 412. The meter is manufactured by Python Injection and is at the following:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... uctDisplay?
storeId=10101&MEDIACODE=AHD&productId=202943&catalogId=10101&langId=-1

It would be great if that hard to find part was actually available new! I was lucky last time as I find a pristine used one in a yard. But I am inclined to stock up on a backup as we all know this along with the air intake boot are very difficult to find. Any opinions. Thanks!
Steve

p.s. thanks to whoever found this for me months back!

The majority of 412 parts listed by JC are produced by Python Injection. Below is address. Please don't throw tomatos if this turns out to be another bust.

Would be nice if some of these companies produced REAL stuff that goes bad or crumbles. Like Air Intake boots. Mine looks as if a MAD electrician got hold of it, with all the electrical tape I am using to cover the cracks!

Geez, I agree! That air intake boot for the '74 412 has to be the hardest to find part. During my search last year yards came up with at least 5 boots with Bosch numbers that "were close but no cigar!" I ultimately had to do a repair on mine while I continued to search. I am not the most mechanical, but heck it would be great if VW had made one boot that fit all. Heck I would settle for interchangeability with a more ubiquitous model such as the Vanagon.
