Anyone know where to locate some VW transaxle set-up tools??
I'm looking for the one to set-up the shift forks

Thanks...Pete

ERCO sells a tool kit that has everything you need for $175.

Bugpack #7065-20. It's not impressive compared to the original German tool but it'll do the job.
Or just carve up a gearcarrier housing of the same vintage and use it....

I bought a bugback plastic jig about ten years ago.It was not right. I had factory jigs, but thought I was doing better buying brand new.I had a few problems, and the transmissions that came back,I would put on my factory jig and the shift fork adjustment would be differant than the bugpack.I threw the bugpack in the trash and never looked back.i build about 1200 a year, and use factory jigs for certain models, and cut down cases for others. If you are serious about rebuilding, and buy the bugpack,I would still use a stock case and measure it,make sure the bugpack is extremely close in length from pinion seating surface to gear carrier seating surface.basically the length of the stands on the jig.

I use cut up Housings for setting forks. You can buy cheap early/late cores, cut em up and then have some spare parts which always come in handy. I can send you pics if you want. Tim

I can't think of why you'd want to cut up a gear carrier. Instead, I use cut up trans cases.

no tranny jigs?

I see everyone has been cutting up tranny cases for jigs. They will work fine too.

I made both of mine out of 1 inch steel stock. Superimposed the original gear carrier and poked the holes in there. The jigs are as accurate as can be. I even made the depth on the jig just like the stock case. They are almost the same from the factory..they are that good. I made 2 to speed up the building. I hated changing adaptor rods for different trannies.

The jigs give a lot of room for adjustments. You can see all around. It also makes things easier when building drag race tranny with dropped 3rd and 4th.

regards.
